Description
Elin and Agnes are a pair of teenage girls trapped in the small town of Amal, an isolated place where nothing ever happens. Elin is teased for being an outsider, but she doesn't realize that Agnes has a crush on her. After an accidental kiss, the two girls must learn about themselves and their identities. This movie is a superb portrayal of not just lesbian teenagers and what they must cope with, but of teenage angst and restlessness in general. Beautifully acted and superb writing, this movie is one of our favorites. Side note: this movie became the highest-grossing movie of all time in Sweden (released in Sweden titled "Fucking Amal").

Sita and Radha are young Indian women whose husbands choose celibacy or mistresses over their wives. The two women become friends and grow closer together, forming a forbidden but liberating sexual relationship. This film offers an enlightening look in to the Indian culture and the roles that women play in it. More of a feminist film than a love story between two women, Fire is definitely worth a look. Side note: due to its subject matter, this movie led to rioting and rare censorship in many parts of India.

Jill (Susie Porter) is a twenty something lesbian private investigator called up by a pair of distraught parents to find their missing daughter. The trail of the missing girl, an amateur poet, leads Jill into a strange world of sleazy literary wannabes and straight into a steamy affair with poetry professor Diana (Kelly McGillis). The plot of this movie seems at times incidental to the building relationship between the characters, and does tend to leave loose ends. Still, the movie manages to pull itself together into a cohesive story toward the end, and while there are no real cliffhangers to this story, it does manage to keep the viewer somewhat interested. Far more appealing is the movie's superb sex scenes between Porter and McGillis; several no-holds-barred scenes between the two will leave you fanning yourself and wanting more.

Henry & June

Description
Based on the journals of noted Parisian diarist Anais Nin, HENRY AND JUNE portrays the love triangle that developed in the 1930s between Nin (Maria de Medeiros), expatriate writer Henry Miller (Fred Ward), and Miller's wife (Uma Thurman). Nin's initial attraction to the brooding and sexually virile author leads to a steady infatuation with Miller's enigmatic and hauntingly beautiful wife, June. The sensuous mood and tone of the film is supported by an ethereal soundtrack and hauntingly beautiful cinematography. The plot centers mainly around, as one would guess, sex, and there's plenty of it, with Nin and men as well as women. While the sex scenes focus mainly on Nin and Miller, there are several scenes between Nin and Miller's wife, as well as other women sex scenes. This visually beautiful movie, coupled with Thurman and Medeiros' erotic interactions on screen, make this film a worthwhile investment.

Steven Spielberg's gentle film is a masterful adaptation of Alice Walker's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel about a southern black girl's rise from tragedy to personal triumph through the course of her lifetime. While not a film about lesbian relationships, we included this one as our top pick of all-time. The film depicts with brutal honesty life of the African American woman in the early part of the century, and manages, with terrific voice and clarity, to convey its strong feminist message. Absolutely stunning cinematography, brilliant acting (Whoopi Goldberg and Oprah Winfrey's first films), outstanding screen adaptation from the novel, and gorgeous, lush music all combine to make this film, in our opinion, one of the greatest masterpieces of all time.

The Wachowski brothers' (The Matrix, The Matrix Reloaded) ultra-modern update of classic film noir stars Jennifer Tilly as Violet, the voluptuously alluring and well-pampered mistress of mob man Ceasar (Joe Pantoliano). Violet is the kind of woman who can catch any man's eye, but she's more interested in the tough, sexy, new handywoman next door named Corky (Gina Gershon). The two quickly become lovers, and conspire to steal two million of the Mafia's money. GREAT stroy, terrific cinematography, and steamy, sensual sex scenes, this one's a must have.

Siren

Acting:
Story: zero
Sex:

Description
If you're looking for a good story, don't bother with this one. In fact, there pretty much IS no story line to Siren; it is more a long music video-type movie, reminiscent of Madonna's Erotica visuals. The movie moves from one sensual vignette to another, with a few vague, film-school-esque scenes thrown in for good measure. In addition, there seems to be an awful lot of kissing and fondling, but when it comes right down to it, really no start-to-finish sex scenes to speak of. In spite of all of this, the movie DOES manage to give a few relatively erotic (if repetitive) images, and those scenes may be worth the buy-it-used price.

Description
Set in a small New Zealand town in 1952, this disturbing yet well-done film is the true story of two girls from different social backgrounds who become inseparable friends. Caught up in the emotional bond between each other, the two girls slip more and more into their self-created, well-fleshed-out fantasy life together. When their parents' intervention finally threatens to disrupt their relationship, the girls decide to strike back--with horrific consequences. this film does a terrific job at handling the sensitivity and nature of the homo-erotic relationship between the two girls, and offers a rare glimpse into the tragic consequences of quashing homosexual relationships in young women. Stunning cinematography, a very well-written and well-acted (Kate Winslet's first film) movie, this one is a must for your movie library.

Gia

Description
American supermodel Gia Carangi lives hard and dies young in the glamorous, excessive urban wilds of 1970s New York City. The film does a superb job of allowing viewers to experience the life of Gia, both the good and the ugly. The film explores Gia's drug addiction with honesty, and does an excellent job of portraying the power of addiction. Angelina Jolie's performance as Gia is brilliant, and captures the restless, energetic, and lost-little-girl qualities of this tragic figure. Coupled with erotic and well-done sex scenes as well as the depiction of the desperate, struggling relationship between Gia and her lover, make this movie a keeper for your collection.
